What is a Communication Profile?

In terms of psychology, one could say that we are all multilingual and that each of the languages we speak is universal, given that each one of us feels all the psychological needs to different degrees and that we must use the corresponding language to express these different needs.

However, everyone feels certain needs as being more important than others and uses the languages specifically to express those needs that are predominant for them.
Our personal communication profile is the result of our specific use of the four psychological languages.

Some Communication profiles are pure (R, I, S, V). Others, due to psychological developments of a given individual, are composite.

The predominance of specific needs appears clearly in the qualities we demonstrate in everyday life, in our attitudes to others and in our ways of managing everyday situations.

It appears even more obviously when we are under significant stress. We can then lose the natural flexibility that allows us to adapt to people with whom we have relationships and to the roles we play.

Under stress we tend to stiffen our behavior, communicate in stereotyped manners, and to demonstrate our profile’s specific shortcomings.
